Design engaging and inclusive Modules

Simple ways to bring your learning content to life

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Creating great learning content isn’t just about what you say; it’s about how you say it. Once you’ve mapped out your themes and topics, it’s time to think about presentation. Engaging, varied content keeps users interested and encourages them to explore more of the platform. Whether you're new to content creation or looking to refine your approach, this guide will help you build structured, interactive, and inclusive modules that your users will love.

Keep it dynamic

Using a mix of content types within each module keeps things fresh and prevents users from switching off. Today’s learners expect bite-sized, easy-to-digest content, so avoid long walls of text wherever possible.

Try combining:

  • Written parts (max 200–250 words each)

  • Quizzes and interactive tasks

  • Short videos

  • Eye-catching images and graphics

💡 If you’ve run out of word space, consider turning that section into a video instead! More details here.

Cater to all learners

Using different formats such as quizzes, videos, and images helps support various learning styles and makes your platform more inclusive, especially for users with neurodivergence.

Think of building modules like hosting a dinner party: you want to cater for everyone, showcase a mix of skills, and leave your guests feeling welcome and satisfied.

Creating inclusive content doesn’t just benefit neurodivergent users, it makes your content better for all.

Tips for accessible writing:

  • Use active voice for clarity and pace

  • Avoid metaphors or idioms, which can confuse

  • Break up text into short paragraphs and bullet points

💡Use the optional “time to complete” feature to help users manage their expectations.

Think like a facilitator

Don’t just present information, guide your users through it like a great teacher would.

Try:

  • Quizzes: Use reflective or knowledge-check questions (e.g. “What excites you most about your future career?”)

  • Mini activities: Ask users to rank examples or reflect on personal experiences (e.g. list strengths and areas of development)

  • Linked parts: Connect a video with follow-up questions to deepen understanding

Once you’re confident using Connectr’s functionality, you can start experimenting with structure and tone. Think about how to guide learners, not just inform them. This is your chance to replicate human connection digitally. Use storytelling, real-life examples, and varied formats to help users feel seen, supported, and understood.

Make it visual

Images make modules more appealing and improve information retention. Each task tile requires an image, so build up a bank of visuals you can reuse. Go beyond stock photos. Canva is a great tool for creating custom graphics, even with a free account.

Bring it to life with video

Video adds personality and energy to your content. Even basic videos shot on a phone can be powerful when well-lit and purposeful. You can embed videos using YouTube or Vimeo links, and add an intro if needed. Read our article here on embedding video content.

Ideas for engaging video content:

  • Welcome messages from leaders

  • Talking head interviews with real employee stories

  • Office tours (keep them short and exciting!)

  • Company mission & values explained in a visual format

  • Curated content from YouTube (e.g. TED Talks – just check credibility and look for subtitles)

💡 You can set start and end times on YouTube embeds to highlight the exact moment you want to share.

Trust your instincts

You know your audience. If something feels too long or jargony, it probably is. Step into the user’s shoes and ask:

  • Is this clear to someone new?

  • Is there any internal lingo that needs explaining?

  • Would I want to engage with this content?

Getting feedback is great, but your instincts are your best editing tool.
